The residents of Maspeth, Middle Village and Elmhurst were the recent recipients of some wonderful news regarding the KeySpan site at 79th Street and Grand Avenue. Mayor Bloomberg, NYC Councilmember Dennis Gallagher, NYS Senator Serphin Maltese, and Congressman Joe Crowley announced that the state will purchase the land from KeySpan for use as a park. A victory celebration was held at the site on Saturday morning. Many residents turned out to say thanks to our elected officials and KeySpan for coming through in the eleventh hour. This recent success proves what a community effort can achieve. Thanks to all those in our community who gave so much of their time throughout the year for this cause.
